Listen for the Love of God.

SCRIPTURE READING: PSALM 85
Key Text: Verse 8 - I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for He will speak peace unto His people.

Do we really listen? Good communication asks for a real good listener. I once sat in at a conversation of a husband and wife who argued for half an hour solidly until I stopped them. My observation was that during that half an hour neither of them finished one single sentence. Neither of the two was listening to what the other one was trying to say. I met someone recently who introduced himself as someone who asks a lot of questions, and so he did. The sad part of it is that he doesn't listen. There is no sense in asking a question if we are not prepared to listen. The sad part of life is that we have very few listeners, but a lot of talkers. Our faith in God asks for a lot of listening.

Edward B. Pusey wrote the following on listening to God. "He speaks, but it is with us to listen or not. It is much, yes, it is everything, not to turn away the ear, to be willing to listen, not to drown His voice. "The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him" (Psalm 25:14). It is a secret, hushed voice, a gentle intercourse of heart to heart, a still, small voice, whispering to the inner ear. How will we hear it if we fill ourselves with the world's empty tumult, it's excitement, it's fretting vanities or cares or passions or anxieties or show of rivalries, and it's whirl of emptiness?"

We have the choice. May our choices speak of wisdom, the wisdom to listen to God speaking, and to "hear what God the Lord will speak..." (key text).

There is a voice, "a still, small voice" of love
Heard from above;
But not amidst the din of earthly sounds,
Which here confounds;
By those withdrawn apart it best is heard,
And peace, sweet peace, breathes in each gentle word.

WE NEED TO BE SILENT AND NOT SPEAK
TO HEAR GOD SPEAK THROUGH THE SILENCE
God Bless!!!
